Reviews

  • The latest edition of General Surgery Lecture Notes is designed to introduce the student to the principles of common surgical conditions, predominantly organised by organ system. It systematically covers the majority of clinical problems where surgical intervention maybe indicated, although some most recent surgical advances such as bariatric surgery for morbid obesity are notably absent. The written content is largely the same as previous edition, with a few expected updates in patient management, although the layout has been totally updated and everything is now in full colour. The text remains a succinct introduction to the fundamentals of general surgery, presented in a consistent manner, and provides much of the core knowledge needed for medical school finals or as a framework for in-depth preparation for the MRCS examination. Additionally the essentials of cardiothoracic, neurosurgery and urology are covered sufficiently to inform the modern cross-covering surgical doctor.

To anyone who has been taught by Professor Ellis it contains the expected historical and anatomical grounding to surgery, logically set out, but the revised diagrams, layout and colour go along way to bringing the book to life, making it much more readable than previous editions.  It is linked to a website of self–assessment questions and answers that compliment this popular and classic text.
