Association of Surgeons of the Netherlands (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Heelkunde)

The Association of Surgeons of the Netherlands (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Heelkunde) was founded 9th February 1902 in Amsterdam primarily as a scientific society.  Nowadays, not only the advancement of science but the promotion of interests of surgeons in the Netherlands and their training, and to guard the quality of surgical care, are additional missions of the Society.  All members receive the Journal of the Society, Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Heelkunde, nine times per year and are invited to the May and November scientific meetings of the Society.

The Association of Surgeons of the Netherlands has seven acknowledged daughter societies:

1. Society of Gastro-intestinal Surgeons of the Netherlands (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Gastro-intestinal Chirurgie)

2. Society of Lung Surgeons of the Netherlands (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Longchirurgie)

3. Society of Surgeon Oncologists of the Netherlands (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Chirurgische Oncologie)

4. Society of Pediatric Surgeons of the Netherlands (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Kinderchirurgie)

5. Society of Trauma Surgeons of the Netherlands (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Trauma Chirurgie)

6. Society of Residents in Surgery of the Netherlands (Vereniging van Assistent-Geneeskundigen in de Heelkunde)

7. Society of Vascular Surgeons of the Netherlands (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Vaatchirurgie)
