This study included 165 patients. Laparoscopic surgery was more expensive (1683 versus 1192 euros, P=0.027), but improvements in quality of life meant that at the willingness to pay threshold of 20,000 euros, there was a 95.4 per cent chance that the laparoscopic surgery was more cost-effective.
